Running for Armstrong City Council
Stephen Zopf
A Neighbour You Can Count On
I've lived in Armstrong for over 9 years and my wife's family have deep roots in our community with over 50 years of history. My campaign focuses on listening first, questioning everything and thorough follow up.
What matters most
Real Issues. Real Solutions.
Armstrong residents deserve a council member who listens first and acts with purpose.
Community Infrastructure
I'll work to review current traffic calming projects, and make our crosswalks safer with better lighting and signals. I believe the current community plan has issues and I want to address them before shovels hit the ground. We have current infrastructure that is in need of repair. I will work with council and the new 15 year plan, sharing my ideas that I currently have: Our roads, especially Rosedale, are in rough shape, our pool needs a new liner and is all rusted, and we still do not have a dedicated community centre. We need to upgrade and revitalize our existing public parks, lands and buildings. Invest in a dedicated dog walking/run park. Pave dirt lots near Memorial park and the pool.
Responsible Growth
Armstrong is growing — and that's a good thing. But growth needs to serve existing residents and not create additional issues. I'll fight for smart, community-first planning, ensuring we have plans to access more water, protection from wild fires, and move forward with laneway housing and frontage for back ally's. We also need more townhomes, legal rental suites and laneway housing to help with our rental shortage. Far too many younger and older citizens leave our community because of this shortage. I will work to break down barriers that slow down permitting and create new bylaws to help foster more development. I will work with the community to determine where is the best place for affordable rental housing, and help fund them through provincial and federal programs.
Supporting Local Businesses
Our downtown is the heart of Armstrong. I'll champion policies that help local shops thrive and keep our community's character intact. This includes a comprehensive review on the current downtown project and listen to the communities issues with the current plan. I will work with current land owners, city planners and the community to review commercial taxation, permitting and licensing. Connect with stake-holders and solicit feedback on what is working and what can be improved at the City level.
About Stephen
I'm not a politician. I'm your neighbour.
I'm raising my family here. My son studies karate with Larry and my daughter does dance with AIM dance studio. I've watched Armstrong grow from a quiet town into something special and I want to make sure that growth works for all of us — not just a few.
I'm running for City Council because I believe Armstrong needs a variety of voices and experiences. We need a forward thinking council that takes feedback and listens to the community, ensuring everyone involved are heard. After all, we are all neighbours, and we have to look out for each other with every decision.
